Can I fill a pool with borehole water?

Can I use borehole water to fill a pool?

The weather is getting hotter now in Cape Town. As a result, swimming is becoming a priority again! Many people are concerned with the cost of filling a pool. Others worry about using drinking water to fill a pool. As a result, more and more pool owners are looking for alternative ways to fill or top up their pools.

Consequently, some people may wonder if you can fill your pool with borehole water. It’s a pertinent question! The answer is yes! You absolutely can use borehole water to fill your pool. However, you need to do a water test analysis first and then treat it accordingly.

CONSIDER IRON LEVELS WHEN USING BOREHOLE WATER TO FILL A POOL

One of the main issues to consider is the iron level of your borehole water. Firstly, iron can change the colour of your water to brown or green. Secondly, it will also have an odour. However, one of its more serious consequences is that it can stain the surfaces of your pool.

As such, it’s critical to have your borehole water tested before using it to fill your pool. Your water analysis test will indicate the iron levels of your borehole water.

This can then be treated in one of the following ways to address the iron levels:

  • GAC KDF Filters

  • Chlorine

  • Aeration Pumps

  • Sand Filters

Each of the above involves different processes. As a result, the method used will depend on the results of your water analysis and which approach is best suited.

Your water analysis test will indicate what other factors, aside from iron, need to be addressed in order to make your water safe to swim in. Once identified, these can then also be treated accordingly.

Whichever way you look at it, drilling a borehole is always going to be a worthwhile investment.  It has numerous benefits. Just think of how it can save you money on your water bill and add value to your property.  It’s a fantastic investment!
