WHAT VEGGIES CAN YOU PLANT IN APRIL?

It’s so rewarding eating veggies that you’ve grown from your garden.  And given that organic produce is expensive, it’s a real benefit to grow your own produce.  Let’s take a look now at what veggies you can plant in April.

The following veggies can be planting in April: Broad beans, beetroot, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, celery, garlic, kale, lettuce, onion, peas, potato, spinach, spring onions, brussel sprouts and pak choi.

As we move into the cooler winter months you can see there’s a lovely variety of veggies that can be planted.  Some essentials to bear in mind when planting veggies are:

  • Be sure to plant them in rich, living soil that has plenty of compost
  • Add a thick layer of mulch to keep weeds at bay and to retain moisture in the soil
  • Water regularly

Watering veggies regularly is essential. However, it can become expensive to use council water to keep your veggies watered.  As a result, it’s a good idea to consider investing in an alternate water source like a borehole.

Let’s take a look now at the benefits of a borehole:

  • A borehole increases the value of your property
  • It helps you save potable water
  • A borehole helps you save money on your water bill
  • You can fill your pool with borehole water once treated appropriately
  • You can use borehole water for your irrigation system
  • It gives you water security
  • It allows off-the-grid living

As you can see there are so many great benefits that come with drilling a borehole. The major advantages are that you will save money on your water bill and you will also have water security. That’s priceless!

Another alternative you can consider is rain water harvesting. As we move towards winter in Cape Town we come into our rainy season.  As a result, it’s a great time to collect and store rain water if you have water tanks.  Whichever way you go, having an alternate source of water will help you save money on your water bill and allow you to water your veggies effectively.
