HOW IS SEDIMENT FILTERED OUT OF WATER?

Water filtration is essential these days, particularly for those living in South Africa.  And if you have a borehole then you will most likely require some form of water filtration.  When it comes to water filtration there are a number of issues that may need to be resolved. These issues include sediment filtration, iron removal, bacterial control, pH control and lowering the mineral content. One of the most common issues is sediment in the water.  But how is sediment filtered out of water?

SEDIMENT FILTRATION

Sediment can be addressed by using a big blue filter. A big blue filter is made up of 3 filters.  Two of these are sediment filters and there is a carbon block filter in the middle.  The first sediment filter will remove the large particles of sediment.   Thereafter, the water passes through the carbon block where organic materials and chlorine are removed from the water.  The water then flows into the last filter which will filter out anything else remaining in the water.  The filtration provided for sediment removal will take into account the type and amount of sediment in your water.

Now that we’ve looked at how sediment is filtered out of water, let’s take a look at water security. In South Africa water security is absolutely essential. We constantly face droughts and the drought of recent years in the Western Cape really took us to the edge when we almost ran out of water.

In addition to this, we also face constant interruptions to our council water supply with leaking pipes. It can truly be a nightmare sitting for days on end waiting for it to be repaired and the water to be restored.

As a result, it’s become essential for us as South Africans to look for alternate water source and ensure water security. This is why many people are investigating the option of a borehole. But what exactly are the benefits of a borehole?

BENEFITS OF A BOREHOLE

  • A borehole increases the value of your property
  • It helps you save potable water
  • A borehole helps you save money on your water bill
  • You can fill your pool with borehole water once treated appropriately
  • You can use borehole water for your irrigation system
  • It gives you water security
  • It allows off-the-grid living

As you can see, a borehole has many excellent benefits.

But hand-in-hand with this goes water filtration to ensure the water is treated adequately so that you can use it. The place to start is to take a water sample and send it to Bemlab for water analysis. Once you have your results, then a water filtration system can be designed to address and solve the issues with your water.
