Water is one of the essentials of life. We use it in so many different ways. Whether we use it indoors or outdoors though, water filtration is necessary. But have you ever wondered what processes are used to filter water? Read on!
The most common processes used to filter water are reverse osmosis, and nanofiltration or mixed bed media filtration.
WHAT IS REVERSE OSMOSIS?
Reverse osmosis will generally remove iron, salt, minerals, and harmful bacteria from your water. It works by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane under high pressure. As a result, only water is able to pass through and everything else is prevented from passing through.
There are 3 types of membranes that are used in reverse osmosis. These are:
- Tap water membrane
- Brack water membrane
- Desalination water membrane
For normal household filtration, either a tap water membrane or brack water membrane should be effective.
As an added measure the water should also be treated by chlorination or UV lights to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria
WHAT IS NANOFILTRATION?
Nanofiltration is similar to Reverse Osmosis as it also uses a semi-permeable membrane. The water is also forced through the semi-permeable membrane to separate it from impurities. However, Nanofiltration gives a somewhat coarser filtration than Reverse Osmosis.
Now that we’ve looked at some of the types of water filtration, let’s look at water analysis testing as well as the benefits of water filtration.
WATER ANALYSIS TESTING
The first step with water filtration is to take a water sample and have your water tested. This can be done through Bemlab. Once you receive your results a water filtration system will be designed for you. This will be based on the results of your water analysis.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WATER FILTRATION
- You will have clean, safe drinking water
- You can save money
- It helps protect the environment
- Helps prevent skin irritation
In addition, it’s also an excellent idea to consider a borehole. Constant interruptions to our council water supply are an issue we face regularly. As a result, we need to consider alternative water sources.
Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of a borehole.
BENEFITS OF A BOREHOLE
- It increases the value of your property
- A borehole helps you save potable water
- It saves money on your water bill
- You can fill your pool
- You can run your irrigation system
- A borehole gives you water security
- Allows for off-the-grid living
There’s so much uncertainty in these times we live in. As a result, it’s crucial to look at our lives and set goals to become as self-sustaining as possible. An excellent way to start this process is by investing in your own borehole and water filtration. This will always be an excellent investment!
